Hello everyone, my name is Eddie Antonio Ríos, and I’m from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I’m creating this fundraiser for my beloved Golden Retriever, Gengibre , who has been my loyal companion since 2010. I received him as a gift when he was just two months old, and from that moment, he became my best friend, my family, and truly my son in every sense.

For almost 15 years, we’ve shared everything — love, laughter, walks, road trips, and peaceful nights. He has always slept next to me, first on my bed and now in his own comfortable bed right beside mine, since arthritis makes it difficult for him to climb up. Even with age, he’s still full of life and joy.

Gengibre's Medical Battle Last year, Gengibre was diagnosed with lymphoma. Even though many told me not to put him through chemotherapy, I decided to give him a chance — and it worked. Chemotherapy saved his life, and he went into remission.

But recently, a new battle began: oral melanoma, a different and very aggressive type of cancer. It started as a tumor in his mouth, which was surgically removed. As you can see in the letter from his oncologist, Dr. Carlos Ortiz, the cancer has now spread to a lymph node in his neck (metastatic melanoma).

Why This Is Our Only Hope We are now facing a major complication. Chemotherapy is not an option because a recent test (SDMA) showed that his kidneys are already stressed and chemo would be too damaging. Surgery and radiation are also not viable options for him.

The only hopeful path forward is immunotherapy with the ONCEPT vaccine. This advanced treatment helps his body’s own immune system find and fight the melanoma and control the microscopic cancer cells. This vaccine could give him more quality time — months or even years — with health, comfort, and happiness.

Transparency: The Cost of Treatment I am doing everything I can, but I cannot afford this treatment alone. I am sharing the official cost estimate from the veterinary oncologist so you can see exactly where every dollar is going. The protocol is for four vaccine doses.

Ayúdame a Salvar la Vida de Mi Golden Retriever Gengibre

Saludos a todos, Mi nombre es Eddie Antonio Ríos y soy de Puerto Rico.

Estoy creando esta recaudación de fondos para mi amado Golden Retriever, Gengibre, mi compañero fiel desde el año 2010. Lo recibí como un regalo cuando tenía apenas dos meses de nacido, y desde ese momento se convirtió en mi mejor amigo, mi familia y, sinceramente, como un hijo para mí.

Durante casi 15 años, hemos compartido todo: amor, risas, paseos, viajes y noches tranquilas. Siempre ha dormido a mi lado — antes en mi cama y ahora en su propia camita, ya que la artritis le dificulta subir. A pesar de su edad, sigue lleno de vida y alegría.

La Batalla Médica de Gengibre El año pasado, Gengibre fue diagnosticado con linfoma. Aunque muchos me dijeron que no lo sometiera a quimioterapia, decidí darle una oportunidad — y funcionó. La quimioterapia le salvó la vida y entró en remisión.

Pero recientemente comenzó una nueva batalla: melanoma oral, un tipo de cáncer diferente y muy agresivo. Empezó como un tumor en la boca, el cual fue removido, pero como pueden ver en la carta de su oncólogo, el Dr. Carlos Ortiz, el cáncer se ha propagado a un ganglio linfático en el cuello (melanoma metastásico).

Por Qué Esta Es Nuestra Única Esperanza Ahora enfrentamos una gran complicación. La quimioterapia no es una opción, ya que una prueba reciente (SDMA) demostró que sus riñones están muy comprometidos y la quimio sería demasiado dañina. TampGoco se puede operar ni hacer radioterapia.

La única esperanza que nos queda es la inmunoterapia con la vacuna ONCEPT. Este tratamiento avanzado ayuda al propio sistema inmunológico de su cuerpo a combatir el melanoma y controlar las células cancerosas. Esta vacuna podría darle más tiempo de vida con buena calidad — meses o incluso años — lleno de salud y felicidad.
