Will you help my baby brother Tim finish college?
I had a conversation with a brilliant young man tonight who has been through tremendous hardship this year, after losing his partner to COVID-19. Crushed by the experience, but not broken, he is still determined, as a single Dad to provide for his teenage sons in his blended family.
I asked him, what’s his main focus right now. He said to me, “taking care of my boys and finishing my bachelors degree.”
I said, “yes, those are definitely two worthy goals.
He told me he was doing great in school, but with his household income reduced from two to one, he may need to delay completing school to take on another job.
I asked him, how far from having his Bachelors degree is he?
He said, “I am 10 months away from completing.”
I asked him, “Do you mind telling me what’s your remaining tuition balance to complete your degree?”
He said, “$5,500.”
He continued by saying, “I just need some ideas for how I can raise the balance because I want to prove to my teenage sons and my bonus son that NO MATTER WHAT, they can accomplish their big dreams, if they are willing to work hard for it, and never give up.”
Needless to say, this conversation was so meaningful to me because I know FIRST HAND what it was like and I know some many others who are inches away from reaching the summit of their mountain and the last leg seems so insurmountable, so they consider delaying or giving up all together.
Needless to say, I pledged my financial support. And I want to GO THE EXTRA MILE at the Holidays to ask my Village of family and friends to consider making a SCHOLARSHIP GIFT of any amount that he can use to keep up and PAY OFF his final tuition balance.
To say he would be most grateful is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
In fact, as an expression of his gratitude, I have asked Tim to send invitations to each and every contributor to a special GRADUATION CELEBRATION! He has also agreed to prepare some of his MOST REQUESTED dishes.
While he is studying to earn his Bachelors Degree in Cyber Security, Tim has over 20 years in the food service industry and is an amazing cook!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post and helping me give the gift of education to an amazing man, father, community servant and awesome baby brother.
Happiest Holidays!
Love,
