My aunt, uncle, (both in the field of education) their three children, and their beloved dog are facing an incredibly difficult time after a devastating fire in their apartment. On Friday night, my aunt was cooking dinner for her kids when a small grease fire erupted on the stove. She quickly tried to grab the fire extinguisher, but the pot erupted, sending flames up to the ceiling and out into the living room. In the chaos, my aunt called for her children to evacuate. They all escaped from the apartment with their dog, thankfully without any physical injuries. However, the fire and the efforts to put it out caused severe damage not only to their home but also to the apartments below. Now, my aunt and her family are staying with another relative, but as a family of six, it’s a tight and temporary solution. They have lost most of their belongings and are facing the cost of repairs for their apartment and the units affected below. They urgently need help with clothing, temporary housing, and repairs. Any support you can offer will make a huge difference as they work to rebuild their lives after this traumatic event. My aunt and her husband have dedicated their lives to educating, uplifting, inspiring children and giving back to their community everyday.
