Help my Aunt Sharon when Insurance won't
Donation protected
The healthcare system in this country is BROKEN. With insurance my Aunt Sharon Werbowski (my mom's only sibling) is a victim of this broken system and the reason for this GoFundMe.
On Oct 27, 2021 she was informed she will be released on Oct 30, 2021 (in two days!!!) from the Skilled Nursing Facility where she is getting care after a horrible infection in her back and a collapsed dic because her insurance said they will no longer cover it. My cousin filed an appeal for care yesterday and was denied today. My aunt is disabled, in her 70's and cannot even walk due to the pain of the collapsed disc. How is she supposed to take care of herself at home? My cousin is filling an appeal to the denial but it can take 1 - 14 days to process (which care would not be provided). My cousin found out today my aunt can stay if she pays $375 a day for room and board (medicine and meals are not included). One week will cost over $2625 which she doesn't have and isn't long enough for her to get better.
Living states away the best way I can help is to raise funds for her to be able to stay. If she is sent home she most likely will die. I am trying to raise $11, 250 which would allow her to stay in the facility for a month and hopefully get rid of the infection entirely and get her pain under control.
THIS is an URGENT request and any amount is greatly appreciated. If you would rather not go through gofundme, please email my cousin Jamie Bell (Jamiebell8282 at gmail.com) and she can help you get the funds to her directly. Prayers are greatly needed and appreciated. We need a miracle, and we know God can do a miracle.

Aunt Sharon's Story
My Aunt Sharon has had back problems for MANY years (on top of a life with rhumetoid arthritis ). On September 7, 2021, she had a pain simulator put in her back to try and relieve some of the severe pain, which was keeping her from doing daily activities and even walking. On Sept 13, my mom and my cousin called an ambulance because my aunt was unable to walk. She was admitted with a high fever and they found she had many infections. One was Staph that was in her spine. They started her immediately on medication to treat the infections. She started to get better and was moved to Transitional Care on September 20th. She continued to heal and even walked 22 feet! (This was a major accomplishment!)
The pain worsened on Sept. 26, and the transitional care facility was not giving her pain medication in a timely manner. Fast forward to Oct 8th, the rehab place was no longer comfortable giving my aunt the amount of pain medication that is needed for her care and sent her back to the hospital. After being readmitted to the hospital, they discovered one of her dics collapsed and one of the screws from the metal rod she had placed 18 months ago is sitting in between 2 vertebrae (causing unimaginable pain). The staph cannot be removed from the metal rods and screws she has as the doctors feel it is too dangerous at this time.
On Oct. 15 she was transferred to Skilled Nursing Facility. As of Oct 22 the infection IS getting better with medicine she can ONLY get at this facility (it's via IV and medicare won't pay for it anymore). She is still in incredible pain and the pain doctors are having a horrible time getting it under control so that she can progress to walking and be able to safely be transferred back home.
On Oct 27 she was informed she will be released from the Skilled Nursing Facility where she is getting care after a horrible infection in her back and a collapsed dic on Oct 29th because her insurance said they will no longer cover it. My cousin filed an appeal for care yesterday and was denied today. My cousin is filling an appeal to the denial but it can take 1 - 14 days to process (which care would not be provided).
I will provide updates as more information becomes available.
