My aunt has always been the one to help others, whether it was giving away meals, clothing, or simply offering a kind word to someone in need. At 74, she still works full time cleaning an operating room unit at a hospital, showing her dedication and strength every day. Her children live out of state, so I’ve been doing my best to support her here in our community.
Recently, a fire broke out in the second-floor apartment of her two-flat building. Thankfully, my aunt was at work and is physically unharmed, but her first-floor home suffered extensive smoke and water damage. The loss has been overwhelming for her, not just because of the damage to her belongings, but also the emotional toll of losing her safe space. She is struggling to come to terms with being on the other side of needing help, as she has always been the one to give.
Right now, her most urgent need is finding a place to live. My home is small and already full with my kids and grandchild, so I want to help her find a safe, comfortable place of her own. After that, she’ll need to start rebuilding and replacing the things she lost in the fire. My aunt is not one to ask for help, but I know she would be so grateful for any support. If you’re able, please consider helping her get back on her feet. Your kindness will mean the world to her and our family.
