Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for help on behalf of my aunt, Misty. Over the past year, she’s been battling a severe bone infection (osteomyelitis) in her face, which has led to multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, and months of IV antibiotics. Despite having insurance, most of her medical care has not been fully covered, leaving her with overwhelming medical debt.

It all started with a dental infection last year, which quickly spread and ate away at the bones in her sinuses, cheek, eye socket, and jaw. She’s already undergone multiple surgeries and spent weeks in the hospital. The initial procedures alone cost her over $4,500 out-of-pocket, and her emergency hospital stay added another $5,000. The IV antibiotics and home nurse care were $1,650 after insurance.

In December, the infection started coming back. After several doctor visits and ER trips, she was hospitalized again with sepsis. She’s been in the hospital for over a week now, undergoing more procedures while doctors fight to control the infection. She’ll need another major surgery at the end of March, and possibly more after that.

Misty is completely drained—physically, emotionally, and financially. She’s out of work again, starting the new insurance billing cycle with no savings left. She doesn’t even have the money to cover her mortgage this month. Her amazing coworkers have started a donation box, but she needs more help than they can provide.
