Raising money for my aunts cancer pain medication and eventually, funeral expenses.
On fathers day this year, my tia went to the ER after 10 days of pain in her hip. That day the pain became excruciating and she finally caved and went to the ER.
It was then they saw she had a lesion in her hip, indicating she had cancer there. So they proceeded to do a full body scan.
They then saw she had lesions on both sides of her hips, cancer in her liver, lungs and kidney.
She was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell cancer.
After 3 rounds of amino therapy and then radiation, the community hospital where she was receiving care said they could not longer help her and recommended she switch care to a different center.
At the new center, she completed 1 grueling round of chemo. Fell and cracked her femur twice from how weak and awful she felt. She has now lost more than 100 lbs.
After that fall, they found the cancer has spread to her femur, spine and areas in her ribs. They diagnosed her as terminal.
My aunt, the force she'd always been, single mom to 5, grandmother to 9.
This week, they checked labs to determine if they could continue palliative radiation but her labs indicated, they cannot. She has now been diagnosed at terminal and expected to live about 6 months. Its not the news we wanted to hear. We are still hoping for more time.
Like most of of us living in the US, she didn't have the type of job with an amazing retirement package, or the ability to ever prepare for something like this.
Her health insurance doesn't cover the type of medication now required to help her pain.
So now we turn to each other to see who can find it in their hearts to spare $1 or $5 to help. If everyone that reads this gives something, anything, we could raise quite a bit!
We're hoping to be able to cover the costs of her pain medication to keep her comfortable and funeral expenses, when her time comes.
Right now, her kids, grandkids and the rest of us around her, are trying to spoil her with her favorite foods and spending time with her.
I love to hear the stories she and my mom have of them getting into trouble as young girls. I'm hoping she'll think of better days.
The least I could do is set this up for her so she's not worried about how her kids will pay for this.
Thanks for reading.
