This year I graduated with a BA in Social Sciences, but because of the nature of 2020, there was no graduation party or ceremony. In lieu of a large celebration with gifts, I thought it would be a great idea to use my graduation as a way to raise money for a trip that would mean a lot for my sister and me.
As many of you know, Joy was adopted from Hong Kong in 2003 at the age of three. Joy has not been back since and she turns 21 next year. Joy has always felt a strong connection with Hong Kong and would love the opportunity to experiences the sights, sounds, tastes, and culture of her motherland. As for myself, I would be grateful for the chance to go back to Asia after my amazing trip in 2017.
The plan:
--Disembark August 2021 for a 3-week journey.
--Spend 2 weeks in Hong Kong and 1 week in Vietnam.
--Visit Joy's original social worker, Connie Cheng, who flew Joy from Hong Kong to San Francisco in 2003.
--Visit my host, Hang, who lives in Hanoi, Vietnam who works as an English teacher (I volunteered as her assistant for 1 month in 2017).
--Eat a lot of delicious street food, including Pho and Dim Sum!
--Explore Hong Kong, meet locals, and participate in local activities.
The funds:
--$2,000 for two round-trip flights
--$1,000 for accommodations; includes hostels, guesthouses, and hotels (approx. $50/night for 21 nights).
--$1,000 for food ($25/day, per person).
--$1,000 for everything else including: the flight from Hanoi to Hong Kong, domestic/intercity travel, tourist attractions, a couple of souvenirs, and any other unforeseen expenses.
As a small incentive, I plan on sending regular updates of our trip via email to each donor.
We hope you will consider helping us reach Hong Kong!
All the best and God bless,
-Tanner
P.S.; As of today, Hong Kong and Vietnam are not accepting foreigners. We are hopeful that restrictions will be lifted by August 2021, but we cannot be sure. If our trip is delayed because of Covid-19, we will hold on to the funds until it is safe to visit.
