Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Strangers,
My name is Patricia Bigay. My heart is broken in a million pieces as I write this statement.
I am writing with a heavy heart to share my father’s story. At 86 years old, my dad has faced an overwhelming series of losses. He recently lost my mother, his beloved wife of 56 years, after her long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s. Just as he was beginning to navigate life without her, the devastating Eaton Canyon fires took his home—destroying not only his shelter but a lifetime of memories and mementos shared with my mom, but also the sense of safety and comfort he’s known for decades.
At his age, starting over is not easy, and the process of recovery feels overwhelming. Finding long-term housing near his community, where he’s built relationships and memories, is a critical step toward rebuilding his life.
As we face this difficult journey together, I am reminded of the words of Maya Angelou: “I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it.” My father’s strength and resilience inspire me daily, and with your help, I know he can rise from this tragedy and rebuild his life.
Every contribution—no matter the size—will go directly toward giving him a chance to rebuild and recover from this life-altering event, and he will begin to embrace an opportunity to know he is not alone.
We are raising funds to help my father rebuild his life and regain stability. Specifically, the donations will be used for:
• Securing Housing: Covering rental deposits, monthly rent, and relocation costs for a safe and stable home near his community of Altadena/Pasadena.
• Replacing Essentials: Purchasing basic furniture, clothing, household items, and other necessities lost in the fire.
• Transportation Needs: Addressing any costs related to his mobility, including vehicle expenses or access to community resources.
• Emergency and Medical Expenses: Supporting any unforeseen costs related to his health and well-being during this transition.
Whether you can donate, share this campaign, or simply send good wishes, we are deeply grateful for your support.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of his recovery journey. Together, we can help him turn this heartbreaking loss into a new chapter filled with resilience, hope, and healing.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Patricia Bigay
