Two years ago, my mother and I made the difficult decision to list her home for sale after all of her family had passed away. She moved to Lake Charles with me and my family, hoping for a fresh start. During the listing, the real estate agent—who was also a close family member—convinced my mother to let the buyer rent the home until closing. Unfortunately, after four different closing dates, the buyer was never able to secure financing. The home was supposed to be inspected every month, but that never happened. When we finally returned, we discovered the buyer had completely destroyed my mother’s home.

Because the house didn’t sell, we had to move my mother back home and were devastated by the condition it was left in. My family spent all our savings just to make the property livable again. We had to stay with relatives for over two months while we worked to repair the damage and find new jobs in the area. The agent, so confident the sale would go through, loaned my mother money to help with moving expenses for her and another family member who was her caregiver at the time. But the sale never happened, and now the agent is suing my mother for repayment.

My mother is 82 years old and lives on a limited income. If we can’t raise the amount needed to pay back the agent, we will lose her home on April 22, 2026. I am begging for help from anyone who reads this—please help my mother keep her home and avoid losing everything at this stage in her life.
