Hi my name is Leonie and I'm fundraising for my 79yo Mum who has osteoporosis and suffered a horrific fall in Bali on the weekend. A simple lunch at a restaurant and a visit to the ladies bathroom has ended up being a nightmare beyond belief. The slippery floor caused her to fall into an open stairwell, where she landed on the steps below. She was taken by ambulance to hospital emergency ward for evaluation and x-rays. The verdict was 6 severe fractures to her upper legs, 3 to her right leg and 3 fractures to her left leg. She was given an opioid injection for the pain which caused a terrible reaction where her Vitals plummeted and she started convulsing. This was so severe that we were close to losing her. On Sunday she was placed in ICU because of the degree of concern. Because of the extent of the fractures, the medical team had to do manual realignments to her legs and both legs were then put into traction with weights (all without painkillers because of the severe reactions). Emergency surgery happened Tuesday night and took 9 hours. Due to the issues with the opioids effecting her heart a full normal general anesthetic could not be done. Post surgery, she has had to have two blood transfusions for the amount of blood loss. As of right now, Wednesday afternoon, she is still in ICU. The cost for this kind of surgery as well as the previous and ongoing medical treatment is monumental, Estelle needs your help.
