Help My 15½-Year Best Friend Guppy Fight Kidney Disease

The hardest part of loving a dog for so many years is knowing that one day time will start to catch up with them.

When Guppy came into my life, he was only 8 weeks old. He was so tiny he could fit in my hands. His legs were wobbly, his ears were too big for his little head, and his tail never stopped wagging.

From the very beginning, Guppy became my shadow.

He followed me everywhere, always curious about what I was doing and always wanting to be part of it. As he grew, his personality became bigger than his tiny body.

Guppy loved to run, play, and chase toys like it was the most important job in the world. If you threw a toy, he would sprint across the room with so much excitement, sliding across the floor just to grab it.

Fetch wasn’t just a game to him — it was his mission.

He was also a little mischief maker.

Guppy loved hiding things. Socks, toys, random little items around the house would mysteriously disappear, only to later be discovered in one of his secret hiding spots. It was like he had his own tiny treasure collection that only he knew about.

Those silly little habits became some of my favorite memories.

Over the last 15½ years, Guppy has been there through every chapter of my life. Moves, life changes, hard days, and happy ones — he has always been right by my side.

He has been my comfort, my constant companion, and my best friend.

But now, time has started to show.

The puppy who used to run across the room to play fetch now moves a little slower. His face is softer and older, but the love in his eyes is still the same.

Recently, Guppy was diagnosed with kidney disease, along with other age-related health complications. Watching the dog who has given me nothing but unconditional love begin to struggle has been incredibly difficult.

Even now, he is still fighting.

He still wags his tail when he sees me.
He still loves being hand-fed his favorite foods.
He still follows me around the house because he just wants to be close.

To the world he may just be a small dog, but to me he is family.

Right now I’m doing everything I can to make sure Guppy gets the care he needs to stay comfortable and keep fighting. Unfortunately, the medical care required for kidney disease, ongoing treatments, diagnostics, medications, and supportive care is extremely expensive.

Guppy’s veterinary care is expected to exceed $20,000.

I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this, but Guppy has given me 15½ years of unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship. Now I want to do everything possible to give him the comfort and care he deserves.

If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world to us.

And if you can’t donate, simply sharing Guppy’s story could help us reach someone who can.

Many people say dogs are only part of our lives, but the truth is we are their whole life.

Guppy has spent his entire life loving me with his whole heart. I just want to do everything I can to take care of him now.

Thank you for reading Guppy’s story and for helping my sweet boy continue his fight.

With love and gratitude,
Reena & Guppy
