Hi, my name is Kate Goheen and I'm a family doctor in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I have many Afghani patients so wanted to help when the government collapsed in August.
Through a Facebook group of physician moms, I connected with a lovely young Afghani-American woman named Muzhgan who lives near me in the CA Bay Area. I have applied to sponsor 10 of her family members to come to the US (they are currently in Kabul, in hiding).
She has 7 more people on her "wish list" that need to get out, so I'm looking for help!
I teamed up with another physician in Southern CA- the amazing Dr. Jacquelyn Nguyen-Ho- who is going to be the sponsor for the 7 people.

This GoFundMe is to raise money to pay for application fees for humanitarian parole for those 7 people. It costs $575 per person for the government to process the extensive application.
100% of the money raised will go to helping these 7 Afghanis:
-first by paying application fees for the humanitarian parole process ($575 per person)
-then if there's extra money, it will go towards travel expenses and cash aid when they arrive to the US
Below is more info on who needs sponsoring:
-2 young sisters, one in high school and one in college, who are being targeted by the Taliban;
-a journalist/human rights' activist and his wife;
-a single journalist;
-a police officer who worked on US projects, with his wife.

Is this a scam: no. My husband was super worried. I met in-person with Muzhgan and her young son, and she is smart, savvy, and has the biggest heart. I submitted all the documents to the government myself, so I didn't share any financial or identifying info. Payment is through a form directly to the government.
