Murphy was rescued from Prince George’s County (Maryland) animal shelter in January 2025, just before he was due to be euthanized because the shelter was physically out of space to house the animals in its care. We don’t know what life was like for Murphy before the shelter, but we do know that he was never taught how to be a happy, healthy dog.
From the start, Daisy’s Legacy knew that Murphy faced a hard road ahead. He needed stability, structure, and patience – and those things aren’t easy to come by these days. Daisy’s Legacy went above and beyond for Murphy! When they put the call out that he needed a soft place to land, I offered Murphy a temporary home. It was during this time – maybe the day it was raining and I thought we’d pop out for a quick potty, but Murphy doesn’t mind the rain and oh there were so many great sniffs so surely we could walk for 45 minutes! – that I fell in love with his sweet heart and curious, loving eyes.
Next, Lyndsey Morgan of Obedient Blue dog training stepped in to offer Murphy a home. And this home fits him very well! There is so much to see and do in Murphy’s world at Obedient Blue, and he gets the patient love and care he needs, and lots of playtime in the water (when weather allows).
Through adoption events and foster homes, we tried to find a “regular” home environment for Murphy, but at the end of a long, hot day, he was feeling overwhelmed and reacted by biting a visitor. Thankfully, everyone is okay and is healing.
The people who love Murphy discussed what would be best for him. We all agreed that a typical adoptive home is not the right fit, and long-term sanctuary care is the best environment for him. Fortunately, Lyndsey is able to provide that, in a setting well-designed to meet his unique needs.
Murphy is thriving at Obedient Blue. He lives in an amazing professional facility where he’s supported by experienced handlers who love and understand him. To be clear, he is not in a boarding facility. He is in his forever home, where he is happy, loved, and safe. He plays and gets treats and lives a dog’s life.
Of course, none of this is free. And that’s where you come in.
On behalf of Murphy, I am asking you to consider making a donation to cover the cost of his lifelong care — food, monthly preventatives, treats, vet visits, and everything that goes into giving him a safe and comfortable life. This is the promise we made to him in January, by Daisy’s Legacy on behalf of all of us who love and care for animals that need extra support and compassion. I’m hopeful that you’ll donate today to help us fulfill that promise to Murphy.
All dogs deserve a lovely life, including Murphy. Together, we can make sure he gets it!
