Murali Hanabe, my friend and neighbor, is a devoted husband, father, and the primary breadwinner for his family. He is also an incredible photographer, capturing the beauty of the world through his lens—his work can be found at https://www.instagram.com/muralihanabe In November 2025, Murali's life changed overnight when he suffered a sudden brain stroke. Since then, he has been in the hospital, facing a long and uncertain road to recovery. The stroke has left Murali with significant mobility challenges, and he will require ongoing treatment and therapy for the foreseeable future.
As Murali prepares to return home, his family is working hard to make their house accessible and safe for him. They need to convert two existing showers—one in the master bathroom and another in a guest bathroom near the garage—into wide, curbless showers that can accommodate a wheelchair. The front of their house has steps, making it difficult for Murali to get in and out, so the family also hopes to build a concrete driveway and a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the front door. These improvements are essential for Murali's comfort, safety, and independence as he adjusts to his new reality.
Murali's family is going through a lot. Their lives have been turned upside down, and they are facing not only the emotional toll of his sudden illness but also the financial strain of mounting medical bills. Making these home improvements is another significant burden, but your support can help ease their stress. Any contribution you can make will go directly toward creating a safer, more accessible home for Murali and his caregivers, making their daily lives a little easier during this challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
