My good friend Muragwa Cheez's family is being persecuted, killed and starved in the DRC and needs our help desperately and immediately. Here is his story and why we are raising money. Thank you so much!
****************************************************************************************
My name is Muragwa Cheez. I was born in Gahololo, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from the Banyamulenge tribe.
While I currently live in Rwanda safely with my wife and two children, that is not the case for my extended family and more than 4000 Banyamulenge families who are on the run, with their villages being burned, their cattle slaughtered, and women being raped and killed. They have no food, no shelter, and no medication at all.
My People’s Suffering
I recently visited family there and saw and heard of the brutality and suffering firsthand. My own aunty was burned to death with her house on April 16th; and my cousin brother and my uncle slaughtered on that same day. On April 23rd, two of my other aunties, who were both 8 months pregnant, gave birth in the bushes as they fled towards Bwegera, a very poor DNC village that has a refugee camp bordering Burundi and Rwanda.
Today #Banyamulenge as a tutsi tribe in the South Kivu province in DRC are being attacked with the purpose of exterminating them or chasing all of them from Mulenge - the only land they have as home for over 300 years. A terrorist coalition (Mai Mai/Red Tabara) under the facilitation of some DRC security forces in the region have openly vowed to implement this and unfortunately, they are now openly doing it right in front of the international communities including DRC government and neighbouring governments.
Doing Something!
I am angry and heartbroken and want to make a positive difference. So when my friends asked what they can do, I decided to set up this fundraiser to give everyone an opportunity to help with their donations. With the funds raised, I will buy items such as food, clothes, medicine, water, and sanitary products to provide the immediate needs to my family and other displaced families who fled to Bwegera. We will purchase items from Kamanyola and Bukavu markets and transport them to Bwegera. I will go there myself and deliver these items to the coordination team at the site.
How You Can Help
My goal is to raise $10,000 to help with basic needs for as many families as we can at Bwegera refugee camp. Every donation, no matter how small, is needed and will make a great impact. This is only a start, and we hope that the global and local community will wake up to this atrocity and provide resources, but it is an emergency that needs attention now to avoid more starvation, suffering, and death. Please help me reach this goal by May 20th. God will bless you.
