Help Muneeb Akhtar recover from a tragic accident
Hello, my name is Omer Mohammed and I'm fundraising for my cousin Muneeb Akhtar. He is a recent graduate who met with a near fatal car accident on the outskirts of Hyderabad, India, and needs your help. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital (Hyderabad) on the morning of June 4th, 2021, with a lot of blood loss and multiple injuries: a broken thigh bone, fractured pelvis, shoulder, and wrist bones, along with a diffuse brain injury. He had brain bleeding and underwent surgeries for all fractures. He has been on a ventilator since the day of the accident and underwent tracheostomy to help with breathing. He remains in the ICU in critical condition. Post surgeries, his hospital course has been complicated by lung infections and bleeding from the lungs requiring multiple procedures to suction the blood out from the lungs (bronchoscopies). Doctors are treating his lung infection with antibiotics as well as antivirals, and are unsure of how long he will remain on the ventilator in the ICU. Due to the brain injury he has suffered from trauma and fat embolism, he also remains unconscious. As per the doctors, once he regains consciousness and is taken off the ventilator, he will be moved out of ICU to a rehabilitation center. Since he is young, doctors remain positive regarding his recovery. However it might take 6-8 months of extensive rehabilitation.
The hospital bills are mounting on his parents. They have already paid around $30,000 USD (raised by the family and on an Indian fundraising platform) and are expecting another $40,000 USD and more in hospital bills until he regains his health enough to be moved to the rehab center. We have been receiving support from family and friends, but with the expenses going up every day as he remains in ICU, we need to raise more money for his recovery.
Muneeb is young, currently in his mid-20s, and was aspiring to come to North America to pursue his master’s and begin his career. But this unfortunate accident has turned his life around along with his parents’ who had dreams for him and now are praying he gets through this and recovers as soon as possible.
