At the end of January this year, Mum was admitted to Parkes Hospital, as she couldn’t breath without oxygen. She was then rushed to Orange Hospital due to a large amount of fluid very quickly filling her lungs. Mum had the fluid initially drained, and has spent the last 3 weeks in Orange Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, with a drain constantly draining more fluid, and on oxygen. Mum has continued to make small but steady progress. We have had an up and down time, with many doctors opinions changing and their treatment options differing.
Mum was transferred by Air Ambulance on Sunday (18/2/17) to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, where she is now continuing to be reviewed, with consideration of undergoing surgery to possibly “glue” the layers of her lungs back together, if she is considered strong enough for this procedure.
We don’t know how long Mum will be in RPA. As you can imagine, it is a costly venture to be away from home in Orange, and now Sydney as well. We are a very close family, and having us present is critical for both Mum’s ongoing recovery, as well as assisting to advocate for her and support her. Particularly, Mum has found the presence of Abigaele, Mum’s 3 month old granddaughter to be of great help in keeping up her positive fight! As we are sure you can all appreciate, having a small baby also limits accomodation options.
We have had many people contact us asking how they can help and assist Mum and our family. If you would like to help us practically, please donate below. Your help, assistance and love is as always greatly appreciated at this stressful time for our family.
