Hello dear friends, family and compassionate humans,
This year my beautiful mum Eliane was given a heartbreaking diagnosis: inoperable bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). This is a rare and aggressive cancer, and doctors here in the UK have told us that traditional treatments can only manage symptoms, not cure her. In March this year they gave her around a year to live.
This devastating news has shattered our lives…
But there is hope.
A groundbreaking new treatment called Histotripsy is now available in the US. Unlike surgery or chemotherapy, Histotripsy uses precise, non-invasive sound waves to destroy tumors. Early results have been incredibly promising for patients like my mum who have been told there are no other options.
Although Histotripsy is expected to arrive in the UK in the future, it won’t come soon enough for my mum. She needs treatment now.
The cost of treatment at Providence Mission Hospital in California, home to the world’s most experienced Histotripsy team, is £38,000 - far beyond what our family can afford alone.
Mum is truly the heart of our family and an important person within many communities. She’s spent most of her life as a dedicated primary school teacher, lifting up others with her warmth, compassion and strength, inspiring them with her encouragement and infectious sense of humour. Life would not be the same without her. Now, we want to give back - to give her a chance to live her dreams, to live a full life and to go back to the Caribbean to see her family again. We want to offer her the same love and support she’s given so freely to others.
She has so much more life to live. We’re doing everything we can to help her keep living it.
After having to fix our house from severe mold and damp issues earlier this year, we are unable to fund this vital treatment for Eliane.
We’re asking for your help to give my Mum this chance. Any donation, no matter the amount, brings us closer to getting her the care she urgently needs. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network. Every bit helps.
Together, we can give Eliane hope - and more time with the people who love her.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
