The Medical Condition

Muhammad Ilyas is suffering from a complex set of health challenges, including severe esophageal varices, portal hypertension, and ascites—complications of liver disease. His recent endoscopic findings revealed medium esophageal varices with red signs, requiring band ligation to prevent life-threatening bleeding. Additionally, he underwent a critical abdominal paracentesis procedure to manage ascites (fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity), which is causing severe discomfort and affecting his ability to perform daily activities.

His diagnosis includes:

• Esophageal Varices: Abnormal veins in the esophagus that pose a high risk of rupturing, leading to life-threatening bleeding.

• Portal Hypertension: Increased blood pressure in the veins connecting the digestive organs to the liver.

• Ascites: Excessive fluid accumulation in the abdomen, leading to pain and breathing difficulties.

• Gastrointestinal Complications: Persistent abdominal pain and digestive issues requiring constant monitoring.

The Financial Burden

The treatments, including repeated endoscopies, medications, paracentesis procedures, and hospital visits, have become a significant financial strain. His family has already spent 25 lakh PKR (approximately $7,000) on his care and needs to continue intensive treatments to keep him stable. They are now struggling to cover the ongoing medical expenses, which include:

• Diagnostic tests and specialized medications

• Repeated hospital stays and follow-up procedures

• Outstanding apartment rent: 2.5 lakh PKR

• Electricity bills: 1 lakh PKR

• Sister’s school fee dues: 1.5 lakh PKR

• Personal loan repayment: 25 lakh PKR
