Why I've started a GoFundMe

I have been going to Mugsy’s Pet Supply & Barkery since 2017, when Lori Sneller took over the little shop at 507 Georgia Street. The shop (originally called Haute Dogs Boutique & Barkery) has become a community fixture–reliable and welcoming to all. When I saw Lori’s recent Instagram post about how hard things have been lately, I asked her if I could set up a GoFundMe campaign so that our community can help her. She has helped so many of us!

About the shop

Lori and her giant doggo Boris—when he is awake and about—welcome all who enter Mugsy’s with warmth. A true animal lover, Lori greets all our fur-iends with appreciation and adoration–from the tiniest toy pomeranian to the smiling-est pit bull. She gladly answers customers’ pet-related questions, offers advice and information and is happy to chat. One never feels rushed at Mugsy’s!

Lori also keeps in touch with and donates soon-to-expire pet food to individuals and organizations helping feral and rescue animals.

Pandemic challenges

Like many small businesses, Mugsy’s has struggled to stay open during the pandemic. Early in the pandemic, Lori purchased an online ordering system so that she could offer Vallejoans delivery and curbside pickup. This investment made it possible for pet owners to get pet food locally without risking their own and others’ health.

In the last two and a half years, Lori has experienced a break-in and theft, a death in her family and unexpected business costs. Despite these challenges, she has worked tirelessly—even delivering food to customers after hours—to keep the shop open, her two employees paid, and Vallejo’s critters fed, clothed, and entertained. Recently, Lori had to take on a second job to keep afloat. She has given Mugsy’s her heart and soul!

Please chip in what you can to help Lori get caught up on pandemic bills and hopefully relocate Mugsy’s.

Right now, Lori needs to pay bills to be able to place inventory orders and keep the doors open. Any amount you can contribute helps!

Lori is also looking for a larger downtown location so that she can offer a broader selection of pet food and products, and perhaps dog grooming services as well. Ideally, the new spot would also get more foot traffic than the current location and could have green zone parking. Your support can make this dream a reality.
