Help Ms. P Save Her Home
Ms. P is facing one of the most difficult times of her life, and she needs our help.
She lives with Usher’s Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes both hearing loss and progressive vision loss over time. Over the years, her vision has steadily decreased, and today her eyesight is very limited. This means she often trips, bumps into things, and faces daily challenges that most of us can’t imagine. For her, even small hazards in the home can lead to serious accidents.
That’s why having a safe, stable, and accessible living space isn’t just important — it’s absolutely critical for her health, safety, and independence.
Unfortunately, the home Ms. P lives in — the house that belonged to her late father — has become unsafe and nearly unlivable. The foundation is shifting, the floors are pushing up, the roof is badly deteriorating, and large, unstable trees on the property threaten to cause even more damage. On top of that, her AC unit has completely failed, leaving her vulnerable in extreme heat.
The interior of the home has also badly deteriorated. The kitchen is especially unsafe and nearly unusable. Broken flooring, damaged cabinets, and outdated appliances make preparing meals difficult and risky for someone with limited vision. A kitchen remodel is not about appearances — it’s about restoring a safe, functional space that Ms. P can use every day without fear of injury.
What makes this even harder is that Ms. P is not eligible for homeowner grants or assistance programs because the deed to the home is still in her father’s name. She survives on Social Security Disability benefits, which provide a very limited income, making it impossible for her to cover these major repairs on her own. That means the support she needs to make her home safe must come entirely from her community.
The most urgent repairs needed are:
Foundation repair
Roof replacement/repair
Kitchen remodel to restore a safe, functional cooking space
Safe flooring installation
AC unit replacement for safe, livable conditions
Tree trimming and removal
Ms. P is a strong, kind, and caring person who would never ask for help if she had another option. Every donation, big or small, will go directly toward these critical repairs so she can remain in the home filled with her family’s memories.
If you aren’t able to donate, please consider sharing this campaign to help spread the word. Together, we can give Ms. P the stability she needs and ensure she has a safe, accessible place to call home.
