Ms. Lucy is 67 years old, a widow, and someone many of us know for her kindness, her warm smile, and her easy, joyful laugh. She has lived in her home for decades—a place filled with memories made alongside her family. On January 14th at approximately 11:30 a.m., Ms. Lucy was outside in her backyard when she noticed smoke rising from the back of her house. In a matter of moments, her home was on fire. The flames caused significant damage to the roof and other parts of the house, leaving it unsafe and unlivable. By God’s grace, Ms. Lucy was not inside when the fire began. While we are deeply thankful that she did not get hurt, the loss of her home has been heartbreaking. Ms. Lucy does not have homeowners insurance, which makes this situation especially overwhelming. She is currently staying with family, but the financial burden of repairing the damage is more than she can carry on her own. The needed repairs include restoring the roof, addressing fire and smoke damage, and making the home safe to live in again. We are asking the community to come together to help Ms. Lucy rebuild the home she loves.
