As I’m sure all of you know by now, our beloved Ms. Laura is fighting the ultimate fight. She is battling cancer, and furthermore, she is battling some extreme, but rare, side effects from her chemo treatment.
When she communicated her diagnosis to all of us back in June, she had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer, and at that point the cancer had spread to multiple places in her body. She was prepared to begin chemotherapy and clinical trials. What she couldn’t have been prepared for was the fact that she was one of the unfortunate <2% on whom the chemo wreaked havoc. She has been in the ICU as her medical team has worked to mitigate the negative effects of the chemo so that she can continue fighting this terrible disease. At this time, the tumor in Laura’s esophagus has grown, so her doctors are considering radiation as well.
Laura has been with OLS-CCLC since the very beginning – eighteen years! During those years she has served many roles including teaching assistant, office assistant, enrichment working with individual children, and school photographer. She is always thinking of others, and one of her greatest joys has been working with the children and getting to know the families.
I hope we will be able to give back to her in her time of need as she has given so much to all of us and our children!
