Help Ms. Jean Create a Dynamic Math Space

Math is a joyful subject. It should be taught that way!
Hello. I am Ms. Jean, a secondary math teacher in San Diego, CA. I have left the nest of the small charter school where I taught for ten years and moved on to a new teaching opportunity at a large school district. At my former charter school, I received a $1,000 yearly grant for classroom supplies, curriculum, etc. I am in the dark when it comes to how classrooms are supplied at my next position, but I would like to start out the year with all of the items that support my students' success.
With your donation, I will buy the supplies to use in my future classroom so that students can be active doers in creative problem solving, groupwork, and multisensory learning.

More about my teaching….
I truly believe that every student can find joy and feel successful in math class. The problem-solving skills and habits of mind they develop transcend subjects and contribute to the growth of the whole person.
I guide my students to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, reflective learners, good communicators, and supportive classmates. I am passionate about providing the space and experiences for all students to ask questions and construct a deep understanding of mathematics through hands-on experiences and problem-solving. I aspire for students to develop positive mathematical mindsets, to embrace risks and failure as the way to grow, and to be lifelong learners.
Learning is stronger when we can process information in multisensory ways. I was a dance instructor for over twenty years and continue to use movement as a vehicle for academic learning. Students in my class will experience songs, chants, moves, visuals, manipulatives, and drawing. I'm always looking for more ways to increase access, improve understanding and memory, and infuse joyful experiences into my math classroom.
A classroom, especially a math classroom, needs to be a safe space where students feel supported and part of a community - where they feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, and learn! I focus on developing relationships and creating a positive classroom culture. A pleasant physical environment helps students feel at ease, organized, and motivated. Thank you for contributing to enhance my classroom environment and to provide my students with the learning tools and resources that will help them succeed.
