Please Help Ms. Janet Heal and Return Home Safely

Dear Neighbors,

One of our community treasures has become severely unwell. Ms. Janet has just undergone a nearly 6-hour and 2-hour surgery in 15 hours followed by blood transfusions. Currently at UW Hospital, she will be returning home with multiple needs.

In case you don’t know our beloved Ms. Janet, she was one of the founding members of the Lussier Community Education Center, has run programs for sexual assault survivors and disabled children, and is helping with 2 young family members. My family and I know and love her because she helped us survive the most difficult time in our lives, and we’ve watched her do it for hundreds of other women, men and children in every community she’s lived in for the last 40 years, including Wexford, Fitchburg, and Northport.

Her new condition will require renting a hospital bed followed by a new mattress on a very low frame. She’ll need a number of essential devices Medicaid will not pay for. In an effort to be discreet, I’ll leave it at that. Msg me for details if you need them.

Several years ago, this community came together and purchased a used vehicle so that Ms. Janet could get her babies to doctors, treatments, therapies, and schools. It was several years old then. It’s her only form of transportation and is in need of tires, brakes, and shock absorbers to be safe. Additionally, there’s a need for waterproof winter snow pants, coats and boots. Due to one family member’s having ARFID, there’s a weekly need for specific fruits, vegetables, and cheese. They shop at Woodmans Grocery Store.

Janet has been a pillar of strength in Dane County. She deserves a medal, and at the very least, the basics that will allow her to recover and for her family to live in health and comfort in these difficult times. Reducing stress will be an essential piece of her recovery.
