My grandmother, Evelyn Smith, affectionately known as Ms. Ems, has spent nearly a century in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica. At 98 years old, she has weathered many storms, but none like Hurricane Melissa.
The hurricane has destroyed the place she calls home, ripped up the trees that once shaded her yard, and caused devastating flooding throughout the area. Roads are blocked, power and cell service are down, and the community has been left in pieces.
While we’re grateful that she is safe, we are now beginning the road to recovery. The land where she lives is not just property; it’s where her parents are buried, where she raised her children, and where generations of our family have gathered, laughed, and celebrated life together.
We’re raising funds to help rebuild Ms. Ems’ home, replace her essential belongings, and clear the land of the fallen trees and debris that Hurricane Melissa left behind. No amount is too small. Every contribution brings us closer to helping my grandmother return home.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers. Please share this page to help us spread the word.
With gratitude,
Madison and Family
