ORIGINAL POST:
Hi! My name is Lynn Sumrall. I am starting this fundraiser for a precious lady I work with. Ms. Emma is one of the hardest working ladies I have ever known. You would never know, as those of us who work with her did not, that her life situation was so difficult.
Ms. Emma owned a single wide trailer, parked on her own land, that received damage from Hurricane Ida in 2021. Her home was then damaged again by a tree falling on it in 2022.
Unbeknownst to anyone at work, Ms. Emma continued to live in her damaged trailer, while waiting for Restore Louisiana to approve her application for help.
Ms. Emma took in her disabled brother, Mr. Rudolph Vallaire. He cannot work and is totally dependent on Ms. Emma. She has been taking care of him for 3 1/2 years on her own, while working full time.
Restore Louisiana has now approved her new home. HVAC and major appliances are included with Ms. Emma’s beautiful new home! There are many basics, however, that will need to be replaced, as well as temporary housing while they make this transition.
She and her brother moved out of the home just a few weeks ago. Since then, they have been struggling to find temporary housing. My hope is that this account can generate enough income to help her get a temporary place to stay, as well as replace items lost due to mold and mildew damage. It should only take a few weeks to get her property ready, and her new home delivered.
The old trailer has been dismantled and will be hauled away thanks to some wonderful people who donated necessary equipment and services. Also donated is dirt for the pad that the new trailer will sit on.
NEEDS AS OF NOW ARE…
- Dirt needs to be spread for the pad
Most items in the house got wet and ended up full of mold and mildew. They will need to purchase those items.
- Furniture
- Clothes
Ms. Emma is a wonderful person! I wish I would have known of her needs before now. Getting a temporary place for them to stay is the most pressing need. It may take several weeks for the pad to be prepared and everything installed. We do not know what the wait time will be on any of these services. Due to Mr. Rudolph’s medical needs, a hotel with a kitchenette may be the best option. Even if Ms. Emma could find a short-term rental, there is no furniture and few household items. They will be needing new beds, living room furniture, clothing, and many other basics that became mold infested.
Ms. Emma was very hesitant to allow me to start this fundraiser. I let her know that she is very loved and that there are people who do care and will help. If you can help in any way, please let me know.
My goal is to have Ms. Emma and Mr. Rudolph in their new home for the holiday season!
She asked me to thank everyone ahead of time and let you know how much they appreciate any help you can give.
Again, THANK YOU, for your help in getting Ms. Emma and Mr. Rudolph into their new home for the holidays!
