Help Ms. Alexis Transition After Teaching
Donation protected
Ms. Violetha Alexis has been a High School English Teacher for 21 years and has been diagnosed with a rare, terminal cancer. Although doctors estimated 12-18 months, Ms. Alexis’s faith is strong, and she knows God’s timeline is the only one that matters. But her dedication to the job is unmatched, and for 21 years she has worked tirelessly as one of the most creative and effective educators at her school. Despite students’ initial reaction to her strict curriculum in the beginning of the school year, they often tout her as one of their favorite teachers. They understand that she is a teacher who really cares.
This diagnosis and the strenuous chemotherapy really hindered her ability to serve in the classroom, but she showed up all year despite the struggle, and most of her colleagues and students were none the wiser. It is with great reluctance that the 2023-24 school year was her last. Teachers need to serve 30 years or be 65 to receive full retirement benefits, and with only 21 years and being age 49, Ms. Alexis will need assistance with this transition.
She is too humble to ask for help – we attempted to do this when she was first diagnosed, but she refused – so we had to convince her to allow those who appreciate her contribution to education and her personal support of so many, directly and indirectly, to show their love, appreciation and support. We ask that you all come through to help this life-long educator enjoy time with her daughter and two grandsons without too much financial strain from mounting medical and life bills. We thank you in advance.
