Help Mrs. Eghdami Fight Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Moojan and I'm fundraising for my best friend's mom, Fariba Eghdami, to offset some of the financial burdens she is facing while fighting what people might call, the impossible.
I have known Mrs. Eghmadi for 15 years. She was my literature teacher in middle school. I became best friends with her daughter, Bahar, who is the same age as I and was in my class through the end of High School. Bahar and I spent a lot of time together which brought me closer to her mom. Mrs. Eghdami was and still is one of the most open-minded people I've ever met. She is one of those cool moms that will sit there, sometimes for hours, and patiently listen to everything you have to say without any judgment. What sets her apart is that she always creates an environment where all opinions are welcome. She enjoys and encourages open and honest conversations that might even make you uncomfortable. I think we can all agree on how important that is.
Fariba Eghdami has been an educator of literature for 28 years. She is a huge advocate of reading as she believes it opens doors to possibilities that exist but are neglected. Starting in her neighborhood community, she encouraged everyone to gather and read together. In 2009, she sent messages to her contacts and said, “I want to read the book, About Freedom, who wants to join me?”. That’s how she founded Jahak, starting with 4 of her students. In 5 years, her audience grew to 150 people with the majority being students and young adults. That’s when she expanded her activities and started the Azta Book Club. Azta’s mission is to combine the pleasure of reading with games and other activities to create an engaging reading experience. Azta Book Club members have read about 2 million and 246 thousand pages of books through 2020.
In June 2021, Mrs. Eghdami was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She went through a partial mastectomy and now going through chemotherapy. The average treatment will cost anywhere between $10,000 and $50,000. Besides the costs of treatments, she is facing additional expenses to cover transportation to and from the medical facility, special nutritional diets, and a lower income due to both the Corona crisis and taking time off from work.

You never expect a humanitarian like Mrs. Eghdami to go through moments like this, but here we are facing the darkest truths of life. It’s been really difficult to see my best friend and her family go through these overwhelming times, but I have no doubt that Mrs. Eghdami is fighting this cancer with all she’s got not just for herself but for her husband, her children, and the amazing Azta community she’s built over the past couple of years.
