I am writing an update as to what happened to my cat Mr. Wilson. I was an emotional wreck when writing my first post, so I thought I would write an update to fully explain what happened.
Hi, my name is Marlene, and I am trying to raise money to help with veterinary bills. Last week my cat Mr. Wilson was hit by a car and left for dead. He was missing for over 7 hours. After posting on the neighbourhood app and alerted my neighborhood that Mr. Wilson was missing, I received a word from a concerned neighbor letting me to let me know that her tenant had seen a cat get hit by a car. The next morning Mr. Wilson was found hiding under a car. My neighbor rushed him to the Animal hospital emergency he was in very bad condition.
Upon hearing this I immediately rushed to the hospital to see my cat. Upon entering the room I was handed a form to sign to euthanize Mr. Wilson, the receptionist handed me a bill for $1040.00 and I was told that Mr. Wilson should be euthanized and that would cost an additional $300. I insisted on seeing Mr. Wilson and although he looked mangled up, I knew immediately that he had the will to live. There was no way that I was going to take his life away from him – he is a young cat, only 5 years old.
I told her that I did not have the funds to pay immediately but I did want to give him a chance at life. She proceeded to tell me that if I did not have the funds, I could give him up to the SPCA and they would pay for his treatment and then try to foster him into a new home. I was a bit taken back and asked her why he would have to go to another home when he already had a family, that loved him very much. This made no sense to me.
I posted my story on Neighborhood app and FaceBook and someone suggested that I start a GoFundMe page to help with Mr. Wilson’s medical bills. With the help of generous animal loving people, I was able to raise the money needed to free Mr. Wilson from the Animal hospital. At first, they did not want to let me take him stating that I had to prove that I would get him care at another hospital. They insisted that they were full up and unable to treat him there. I have been trying to find another vet but because of the pandemic none are willing to take Mr. Wilson on.
Mr. Wilson has a broken leg and jaw, and his pelvis is broken in two to three places. The Alta Vista Veterinary hospital quoted me $10,000 for his surgery. I am desperately seeking a vet in the Ottawa area that is wanting to help save my dear Mr. Wilson’s life. He will require surgery as well as by-weekly check up’s at the vet. I cannot afford the $10,000 that Alta Vista is quoting me, and I also do not have a lot of faith in this hospital since their first thought was to euthanize him.
Mr. Wilson is now at home. He is comfortably in a crate so that he does not move too much. His appetite is good, and he is very alert. He has even tried to leave the crate but is unable to go far. I have been in touch with a holistic animal healer, and she is overly optimistic that Mr. Wilson will recover with a lot of love and care. I also had another vet look at him and he said his survival rate is particularly good.
I am a personal support worker and have spent most of my life caring for people. I know I am fully capable of caring for Mr. Wilson and helping him recover. It breaks my heart that money makes the difference between life and death. I will continue to care and help heal this wonderful loving cat because he deserves a chance to live a long and fulfilling life.
I got Mr. Wilson a few years back. He was the offspring of a stray cat, skinny and full of fleas. We nursed him back to health and he is now a precious member of our family. He is quite vocal, whether it is for food, or he just wants a bit of loving, his loud meowing can be heard throughout the house. He loves to cuddle, and constantly climbs up on my lap to get a rub and a few kisses.
I very much want to get the help that Mr. Wilson needs to survive this horrible ordeal he has experienced. I can only hope the person that hit him was not aware because it breaks my heart to think that someone deliberately left an animal to die on the side of road.
I would like to thank my neighbors. The tremendous support I received was incredible. Many helped me search for Mr. Wilson and their concern for a cat they barely knew touched my heart. I am extremely grateful - Thank You – you are all wonderful people.
I would also like to thank everyone that donated. Without your help Mr. Wilson would not be at home now. I kindly ask that cat lovers find it in their heart to donate what they can to help me save Mr. Wilson – anything will help. I understand during the pandemic money is tight and I hate to seek help from strangers, but it is the only way I know how to generate immediate funds to help this little guy get better. All funds donated will go directly to the care of Mr. Wilson.
I would like to thank everyone for reading my story and ask them to pray for Mr. Wilson’s recovery. Positive thoughts and good energy are just as valuable as money.
I will continue to post updates on Mr. Wilson’s condition. If you have a Facebook page, please consider sharing my GoFundMe link - https://ca.gofundme.com/f/help-mr-wilson-get-medical-treatment. If we are lucky maybe a vet will see it and help with the surgery at a reduced cost.
