Hello! I’m Amanda one of the founders of Severn Valley Rescue and we are asking for your help to raise money to pay for Mr Stars treatment- after he was shot!

Mr Star was a happy cat at the sanctuary and, as usual he had his evening meal on Friday and went about his business. Sometimes he would totter into the farmers field opposite the rescue - but he never went far. On Saturday morning, Mr Star didn’t return for breakfast. He was missing.

We looked everywhere and couldn’t find him.

Eventually, in the early hours of Monday morning he returned, limping badly and with a large infected open wound.

I immediately rushed him to the vets who agreed to see him straight away. Our first thoughts were a car accident or perhaps a dog attack…. But nothing seemed to fit.

He was sedated, given antibiotics, pain relief and x-rayed.

To our complete disbelief, the remains of a bullet were found in Mr Stars shattered leg.

Not an air rifle. An actual rifle- the type you need a license for. A real weapon.

Someone tried to murder our cat.

His blood count was so low, he had lost so much blood, the vet was astonished he was still alive.

Mr Star is receiving treatment to stabilise him before he can have a front leg amputation later in the week.

I can not thank the vets, Rob and Ryan, and all the staff at Southwater vets enough for their prompt response and treatment. They have been amazing. Mr Star is in the best possible hands.

But make no mistake, this was a deliberate act of cruelty.

We have, of course, given all information to the police, and preserved any evidence.

We ask that anyone with any information would please come forward.

It may be “legal” to shoot foxes (whether it’s right is another argument altogether) - but if you can’t tell the difference between a fox and a cat then you should not be carrying a weapon. Who’s next?
