I’m reaching out with a hopeful heart to share the story of someone incredibly important to me — my dad, Ray Morales, a man who’s been fighting stage 4 cirrhosis for the past three years. Alongside his type 2 diabetes, this illness has taken a serious toll on his body. Now, we’re at a point where a liver transplant is not just a treatment — it’s his only chance at life.

He’s currently on the donor list, but as many families know, the journey doesn't end there. Even if a match becomes available, the costs of the surgery, recovery, travel, post-op medications, and long-term care are incredibly high. Our family is doing all we can, but we can’t do this alone — and that’s why I’m reaching out.

This transplant wouldn’t just save his life — it would give him back the future he deserves. It would mean more birthdays, more holidays, more time to simply be with the people he loves. It would give him the chance to see his children grow, to be there for the big moments — graduations, weddings, family milestones — and the quiet ones, like Sunday dinners and backyard conversations.

My dad is a man who’s spent his life looking out for others. As a retired school security officer, he worked at Falls Church High School and J.E.B. Stuart (now Justice High School) for years, protecting and mentoring thousands of students. He’s always been humble, generous, and compassionate — the type of man who never turned away from someone in need.

Now he’s the one in need.

And while asking for help is never easy, we believe in the power of community, kindness, and hope.

Les escribo con el corazón lleno de esperanza para compartir la historia de alguien increíblemente importante para mí: mi papá, un hombre que ha estado luchando contra la cirrosis en etapa 4 durante los últimos tres años. Además de su diabetes tipo 2, esta enfermedad ha afectado seriamente su cuerpo. Ahora hemos llegado a un punto en el que un trasplante de hígado no es solo un tratamiento — es su única oportunidad de vivir.

Actualmente está en la lista de donantes, pero como muchas familias saben, el camino no termina ahí. Incluso si se encuentra un donante compatible, los costos de la cirugía, recuperación, medicamentos postoperatorios, traslados y cuidado a largo plazo son extremadamente altos. Nuestra familia está haciendo todo lo posible, pero no podemos con esto solos — y por eso les pedimos ayuda.

Este trasplante no solo salvaría su vida — le devolvería el futuro que se merece. Significaría más cumpleaños, más celebraciones, más tiempo simplemente para estar con las personas que ama. Le daría la oportunidad de ver crecer a sus hijos, de estar presente en los grandes momentos — como graduaciones, bodas y logros familiares — y también en los pequeños, como las cenas de domingo o las charlas en el patio.

Mi papá es un hombre que ha dedicado su vida a cuidar de los demás. Como oficial de seguridad escolar retirado, trabajó durante años en Falls Church High School y J.E.B. Stuart (ahora Justice High School), protegiendo y orientando a miles de estudiantes. Siempre ha sido humilde, generoso y compasivo — el tipo de persona que nunca le dio la espalda a quien necesitaba ayuda.
