Help Mr. Leslie A. Emanuel Remain in His Home

Mr. Leslie Emanuel resides on the island of Antigua  located in the Eastern Caribbean region. He is raising money to refurbish the kitchen and bathroom of a wooden house built by his family in 1993 for him, his late mother, and a full-time caregiver. On February 22, 1990, he was seriously injured in a car accident that crushed his spinal column cervical vertebrae 3, 4 and 5, also severing my spinal cord that left him completely physically paralyzed and reliant on 24/7 care.

 According to the contractors who have inspected his home, termites have invaded the structure, leading to a need to rebuild parts of the house and to repair others. Mr. Emanuel has appealed to the Antiguan Government for assistance and shared that they agreed to repair, not rebuild the house through the Home Advancement Program for the Indigent (HAPI Program).

The contractors also agreed that this house is in such a bad condition that if a tropical storm hits Antigua, this house would not be livable afterwards, which would mean he would have to be relocated to alternative accommodation, such as a nursing home which would take away his right to independent living.

The structure of the house weakened by termites made it easier for rats to bite through the rotten wood of the walls of the kitchen and bathroom that are seriously deteriorated beyond repair and need to be refurbished in concrete. The free movement of rats that can carry and transmit diseases to those of us in my home has become a major health concern.

Mr. Emanuel needs your immediate help with funds of $17,000.00 to renovate the kitchen and bathroom in concrete and also need your long-term help with funds to:

– Pay staff for 24-hour care;
– Pay for household expenses;
– Purchase groceries, medication, medical supplies and assistive equipment;
– Pay for communication service (disability accommodation);

With your help and the Antigua HAPI Programme, his home would return to be a healthy, safe and resilient residence!
