Help Mr. Harris Provide for Skyline's Music Production Class
Donation protected
Hey everyone! My name is Corbin (Mr. Harris to my students) and Im the music production teacher at Skyline High School in Oakland, CA. Im from The Bay (Oakland and Richmond) and have been teaching for about 6 years. Producing music has been a major passion of mine for over a decade and last Spring I got an opportunity to not only teach my passion, but to teach it to my community here in Oakland. This is my first year teaching at Skyline and its been truly amazing and definitely a learning experience. Being able to connect, build, provide a safe place, give opportunities and ultimately nurture the youth of Oakland has been the most rewarding experience.
While teaching here, I've come across some amazing, talented, driven, kind hearted, hilarious and intelligent students. Ive also come across students who have experienced or are currently experiencing some serious trauma, pain, and grief. From gun violence, drugs and homelessness to a parent or both parents being locked up or just not in the picture, the life situations some of my students go through has been hard to see. Even with the harsh realities of life that my students endure, they still try to make to class and be engaged with the subject matter.
For a few weeks in my class we've been producing an instrumental project filled with all different kinds of genres. Most of my students had never made a beat before this class and over the semester they've really learned, improved and honestly surprised the heck out of me with what they've made!
What I'm hoping and asking for is a contribution from you to support my students with their instrumental project and to support them with some of the hard life situations that they have experienced or are currently experiencing. The money that is donated to this gofundme will strictly be used in the following ways.
1. To actually pay my students (I would love for my students to get paid from producing a body of work and putting it out into the world)
2. To fund things like food or when we have pizza parties (for when we have listening sessions or when my students have really gone above and beyond. Sometimes my students haven't eaten all say so having snacks to hold them over would be greatly appreciated)
3. Studio Equipment
- Sound Proof Foam Panels ( we need 100 panels for our recording and podcast studio)
- USB-C to USB Adapter (we need 25)
- 10.2-inch iPad Wi-Fi 64GB ( I know things can get pricy but we truly need 10 of these)
To conclude, teaching at Skyline has been a blessing and I'm extremely grateful to teach, support, build and provide opportunities for the students here at Skyline. Ive paid out of my own pocket for food, equipment, supplies etc and would be extremely grateful for your support!
