UPDATE: Due to the damage and conditions on Lombok, we are sad to say that Mr. G's house will be coming down. However we are shifting focus the funds will now go towards building some sort of structure on the property so Mr. G and family can remain there. We are still keeping the goal at A$20,000 and money donated will now go to this updated goal. Read on for the original pitch.
In the last week, the island of Lombok was wracked by earthquakes and aftershocks. While relief efforts continue, most residents have received little help from the Indonesian government or otherwise.
Our high school teacher Mr. Peter Greener - affectionately known as Mr. G to his students - has lost his house in the disaster. While his family were fortunate enough to make it out okay, his house has been catastrophically damaged by the disaster (see pictures.) Currently his family has relocated to a safer area but the house remains unsafe and has been looted several times.
As a way for us, his students, to give back to one of our favorite teachers we have decided to start a funding campaign to help Mr. G and his family recover. Since reaching out for help in the past week, Mr. G and his wife has received plenty of assistance from family, friends, colleagues, and former students. Nevertheless, help is still needed and we have estimated approximately AU$20,000 would suffice to help with repair and recovery for Mr. G's lost and damaged property.
We welcome donations from all over the world and from everyone. We will not keep a single cent, all money received will be sent to Mr. G and his family.
Thank you for reading our funding pitch and hope you will be able to help!
