Hi Everyone,
On July 17, my father, Subbaraya Setty Ranganatha Babu, went through a life-changing event while visiting the USA as a visitor. He was diagnosed with Pneumonia on July 8th in Urgent Care and provided with medication for six days. But his cough reversed after the medication, for which we ended up in the ER on July 17th. Thankfully, ER Doctors identified the reason for the cough, which turned out to be multiple heart attacks.
ECHO, followed by cardiac catheterization, was performed to remove the block and add a stent, but it failed. During the procedure, he had an Anxiety attack, followed by lung collapse, and his kidneys were affected too. Investigation revealed he had a 100% blockage in the artery and had a left anterior descending (LAD) heart attack. An Impella device(heart pumping device) was placed as the procedure could not be continued, and his heart was weak.
Luckily, his heart recovered to EF of 30-35% after 5-6 days. He went through a lot of pain in the ICU for 8-9 days, being on a ventilator, feeding tube, and sedation. Followed by a semi-ICU room under constant monitoring(24/7) for any further complications for five days. Later discharged to a regular/standard room in the hospital for monitoring and therapy.
Initially, he was in a semi-paralyzed or semi-coma state due to the procedure and was able to move only his right hand. He is recovering with both hand and leg movements. Also, he is going through speech therapy as one of his vocal cords is paralyzed and occupational therapy since he is unable to perform any basic necessities. To add to the complications, he had two minor brain strokes, and we are yet to know the outcome of it.
The only good news in the last five weeks is that he survived a LAD heart attack, which is commonly known as a Widowmaker.
The hospital wants to discharge him as his vitals are parred for his current condition, but he requires Rehab for physical, vocal, and occupational therapy. My dad, who is a visitor on a tourist visa, has very limited medical expenses covered under travel insurance, which got exhausted in the first few days. His kidneys are not fully functional, and he needs transportation for dialysis, which is three times/per week. He needs to be on a life vest for up to 3 months, which costs $5000/month. Also, follow-up with specialists and scans after 45 and 90 days to reassess the heart performance and finalize further treatment and surgery, which is unclear as to whether it will be a pacemaker or defibrillator.
I'm kindly reaching out to our community to seek your support in raising funds for my father's care, outstanding hospital bills, medications, home care, and surgery.
Thank you for your generous support and for standing with us.
