Help Moz get through his medical battles

Moz has not had the easiest life. He's 10 years old and has been battling bladder stones for eight of those. This has put him on a special low-sodium diet that has been a constant expense for years, and he's periodically needed surgeries to manage the condition.

In 2023, he had a particularly intense surgery because the stones turned out to be more like sand, causing him severe urinary problems. It built up in his bladder and started blocking the passageway, preventing him from peeing and causing him a lot of distress. Even the vet seemed relieved — and frankly surprised — when he pulled through.

Since then, he needs regular scans to monitor the issue, which adds to the vet bills.

Moz also developed diabetes at the start of 2024, requiring daily insulin injections. Insurance covers the insulin and needles but with high excess fees that still hit hard. At the start of this year, he developed cataracts, but surgery for that isn’t an option due to costs.

The pet insurance has become unaffordable, doubling in price last year, and they are now pushing back on renewing the bladder stone coverage, which is the biggest financial burden. I’m managing my own health issues which have affected my ability to maintain consistent work hours and working freelance. I supplement with freelance work, but it’s unpredictable, and medical expenses have left me struggling financially.

Cue this past month, where an additional £2000 surgery was required for the bladder condition. This was much less severe than the previous one, but the vet bills for a cystomomy are never cheap.

Moz is a deeply affectionate and loveable idiot who’s been a constant source of comfort through my own difficult times, and I don't want to abandon him during his. Supporting him through the surgery and his ongoing health needs is my top priority.
