Mowgli is a gorgeous, joyful 3.5-year-old Husky who is visiting Berkeley, California with his companion, Reuben. The pair had just driven across the country from New Orleans in for Reuben to receive an operation on his hand. In a moment of bad timing, my family and I were driving up their street when Mowgli excitedly ran out of his yard and collided with the side of our car. We pulled over and were devastated to see what had happened. Reuben was already in the street with him giving him comfort, and neighbors came out and helped strategize about how to transport Mowgli to the nearest emergency vet.

Mowgli suffered a terrible break in his right rear leg that punctured the skin and required immediate and extensive surgery. The animal hospital bill amounts to more than $10,000 and continues to pile on. Reuben, a pianist sidelined by injury and Covid, would so appreciate a bit of help to get his best friend through this scary time.
