Help move Yong Choi to a safe home free from hate

Our Goal:

When we learned of the hate crime perpetrated against Mrs. Choi we had to do something to get her out of Leisure world.
Here is the news story:

We are raising money to relocate her to an assisted care facility as soon as possible. She is currently and understandably too scared to leave her home and doesn’t even feel safe enough to go for a walk in her own community. We want the Choi family to be able to grieve the loss of their loved one without having to worry about their mother’s safety. To be free to live without racist threats and constant fear. We hope to alleviate the financial hardship that comes with this move at an already difficult time.
We were fortunate enough to speak with Mrs. Choi's daughter and she gave us permission to raise money on her mother's behalf and told us her parent's story.

The Choi's Story:

My parents met on a blind date 58 years ago. They were to rendezvous underneath the big clock at the Seoul train station, which was unfortunate because my mom could see exactly how late my dad was. She almost walked away, but my dad was a tall and handsome charmer who convinced her to stay.

In almost 57 years of marriage, they had four daughters, relocated to and became citizens of a new country, started new careers and businesses and finally retired together to Leisure World in 2012. They chose this retirement community because of its proximity to two of their children, the ample amenities, the vibrant Asian American community and the safety it provided.

In early February, my dad was rushed to the hospital with what would eventually be diagnosed as a rare bone marrow infection. After three weeks in the ICU, my father passed away without any of us getting to be with him due to Covid restrictions. My mom was in such shock when he died that I had to tell her three times. She couldn't believe such a physically healthy man and her life partner of so many decades could die so suddenly.

We thought our family could begin healing after the funeral on March 19. But then a few days later, my mother received the racist, hate filled letter in the mail. Although we reported the letter to the police, the FBI and Leisure World security, the perpetrator has not been caught. We fear for my mom's safety and are actively looking to move her to an assisted care facility closer to us in Los Angeles as soon as possible.

Please help this wonderful mother and family heal in peace.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
