Help Move Our Mom to a Safe Facility
Donation protected
I recently traveled from Texas to Arizona where my mom was placed in a nursing home. From my conversations on the phone with my mom regarding the condition of this nursing home and her treatment, I began to worry about her well-being. When my brother and I arrived at this facility, we were shocked at just how bad the situation really was.
Upon entering, we were hit with a god-awful smell. The place just looked unkempt and unclean. We proceeded to go to my mom’s room. The condition we found her in was beyond our worst nightmare! She was laying in urine and feces as she was in a diaper. She clearly had not been changed in quite some time. She had developed open sores due to her consistently being kept in an unclean diaper and sheets. It was very apparent that she had not been bathed for some time as well. She was bedridden and had been for approximately a year, yet no one in the home could give us a diagnosis of why. We came to find out that she suffered a serious injury to her knee. No physical therapy or any type of effort had been made to rehabilitate my mom and get her up and walking again. She also had an injury to her fingers and wrist on one hand. The list of other injuries and medical conditions is so long and shocking it broke my heart. The food was disgusting and she was often fed a meal for lunch, then clearly fed the leftovers from that meal to the next. Everything they served was always cold and just lacking any kind of nutritional value. When my mother tried to call a nurse to attend to her needs, she was often ignored. I had sent her many care packages and items were frequently missing. We were there on Mother’s Day and one of the gifts we gave her was a warm blanket. The next day as we visited her, the blanket was missing. There are so many more terrible issues my mom has endured. It is a long list of unacceptable treatment of any human being, let alone a loved one.
My brother and I immediately wanted to move her to a better facility in Texas, but we came to find out that in order for my mom to travel to another state, it would require her to fly in a special aircraft with a medical staff on board to accompany her. This mode of transportation is not covered by insurance. Due to her poor condition health-wise, no home in Arizona would accept her. I have found a facility that is excellent here in Texas that is willing to take her; however, the transportation starts at 10 thousand dollars for the trip. Respectfully, my family requests that you may consider any donation as we are unable to afford this trip ourselves. Thank you!
