This GoFundMe is to benefit my father, the great Gordon Fol, AKA "G-man", AKA "Gord", AKA "G". For those who might not know my Dad well, he is an incredible man. He grew up in Queens, NY, and received a college degree from Salve Regina in Newport, RI. He relocated to the Berkshires in 1985.
Gordon was a father figure not only to his three children but to many of their friends as well. He lived his life for his family, never missing a football game, soccer game, or dance recital. In fact, he often served as an assistant or head coach (even if he didn't know a thing about the sport). He greeted everyone he saw with a smile or a hug. He taught his children how to live for the moment and enjoy each day to the fullest. My father would go above and beyond to help a friend, something I've personally witnessed many times. The motto in our home was always, “Do the right thing." I'm grateful for the ways he exemplified that.
Gordon had two severe strokes in 2018. His life came to a grinding halt and was forever changed. Since then, he has been in two different nursing homes, both of which seemed to provide inadequate care. He was hospitalized for over a month due to Serotonin Syndrome, a neurological condition caused by overmedication from one of the nursing homes. Thankfully, he has been able to spend the past five months at home under the care of Victoria, his longtime friend. We are beyond grateful for the amazing care and support she has provided for Gordon.
It has come time to place my father back into a longterm care facility. I manage all of my father's "stuff" (and boy, there's a lot of it), but I (Kate) live in South Carolina. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise the necessary funds to relocate Gordon to South Carolina. I'm in the best position to ensure that his affairs are managed, his care is satisfactory, and his visitation is regular. Therefore, his being in close proximity to me is essential. In order for Gordon to thrive in a nursing home setting, he needs someone with a strong, loving presence to advocate for his needs and to frequently communicate with his caregivers.
Your donations will be used in the following ways:
•A Medicaid attorney - this will ensure the smooth transition of his health insurance from Massachusetts to South Carolina. This will also prevent gaps in his care or insurance.
•Financing his transfer down to South Carolina.
•Easing the financial burden of his many medical bills that have piled up during this time.
We would greatly appreciate any contribution, big or small. We appreciate your love, prayers, and support in the meantime.
Sincerely,
Kate, Sarah, & Ryan
