My name is Athena, and I’ve been rescuing animals in the Rio Grande Valley for years—mainly dogs at first, but I soon realized there was a desperate need for a safe haven for neglected, retired, and unwanted horses. That’s how Dos Palmas Sanctuary Ranch (DPSR) was born. Over time, our family has grown to include not just horses, but also pigs, dogs, and cats, all needing a second chance and a safe place to call home.
Last March, our current ranch was hit by severe flooding. We lost everything and had to evacuate all the animals. Since then, I’ve been searching for a safer place where our animals can thrive without the constant threat of disaster. After a long and difficult year, I’ve finally found the perfect new ranch. It’s a place that will not only keep our animals safe, but also allow us to expand our rescue efforts and help even more animals in need.
The challenge now is the cost of moving. We need to cover moving expenses, secure the new property, and transport all of our animals—including horses, pigs, dogs, and cats—to their new home. With flood season approaching fast, we only have about a month to make this move happen. While I run a business to help offset the costs of rescue, I can’t do this alone. Rescue truly takes a village, and I’m reaching out for your support. Please consider helping us give these beautiful animals the safe, loving home they deserve. Your support means the world to me and to every animal at DPSR.
