Mouse is my ten-year-old cat, and she means the world to me. Over the past year, her health has declined rapidly—her kidneys are only a third of the size they should be, and her lungs are in terrible shape. Every day, I give her breathing treatments and MiraLAX twice a day, and she needs a special kidney diet that is incredibly expensive. On top of that, I have to keep up with her insurance and take her to the vet frequently, which means paying for Ubers to and from appointments.

Trying to keep up with all of Mouse’s needs has been overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. I’m working extra jobs just to cover her medical costs, food, and transportation, but it’s getting harder to manage my own bills and basic expenses. Every twelve hours, I need to be home to care for her, which limits my ability to work and makes it even more difficult to make ends meet.
