Just yesterday, decade-long Arcata/Humboldt community member and public transit driver Myatma (Mot) received word while at work that their apartment building was caught in a multi-building fire. Tragically, they only moved into their apartment just over a month ago. Nearly all of their belongings - some still in moving boxes - including their pet beetles were lost. Community has shown up for Mot as their partner and friends have sheltered them and thrifted them a change of clothes, but they are working hard on the road to rebuild their life in the long-term.

Beloved locally-owned and -driven businesses were lost in the fire, several community members and families living in both the burnt buildings and neighboring buildings were displaced, and the smell of chemicals can still be felt from over a block away. A period of starting from scratch awaits many people in our little town. Supporting anyone and everyone affected through whatever means (word of mouth, donations, thoughts/prayers) would mean the world. Any funds that exceed necessities will be redirected toward community driven betterment and beautification projects
