After midnight on December 20th, a massive explosion and fire erupted in a commercial loft building complex in Hoboken, NJ and spread to the woodworking shop of Kalle Fauset, Moss Fauset Furnituremakers, and Thomas Hucker Studio. Machinery, tools, materials, and one-of-a-kind works representing a lifetime of dedication to the craft of furniture making were damaged or lost.
There are extraordinary expenses getting back to work. The machines need to be assessed for water and fire damage and, if salvageable, will require lifting the heavy equipment from the third floor and moving to a new location. Kalle faces the costs of setting up a new shop—from installing electrical and dust collection systems, lumber racks, and storage to multiple improvements that make for a fully functional shop.
A fire is every craftsperson's nightmare. Costs are difficult to estimate, but any contributions to help get Moss Fauset Furnituremakers back to work would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you so much.
