Help Moss, cruelly shot in the head by air gun

Hi, my name is Hannah and this is the story of Moss, a 1 year old cat, who was shot in the head by an air gun on the morning of 7 October.

Moss was found in the garden in a pool of blood after being let outside only 15 minutes previously. After an x-ray at the vet’s we were informed that someone had actually decided to shoot poor Moss in the head. We have no idea who did this or where exactly it happened as the trail of blood led from outside the family’s garden. We also can’t understand why anyone would want to do this to a defenceless pet.

As a result of being shot in the face, slightly to the side of his nose, Moss is now blind in one eye. The pellet is lodged in his skull and some shrapnel did get to his brain, but he seems neurologically stable. The current advice is not to remove the pellet, but we may have to remove his eye. Considering everything, he is quite lucky.

This fundraiser has a couple of goals.

Firstly, I want to help the family out by raising funds so help cover the vet bills which have surpassed the amount that their insurance will cover. They were initially quoted around £5000-£6000, and the insurance only covers up to £1000. No family should have to go through this kind of financial burden at the hands of someone so cruel.

The second goal is to spread awareness of this kind of cruelty to pet owners. The RSPCA receives a huge number of reports of this nature which is so disturbing. It’s so important that these crimes are reported to the police. Your report could mean that another cat and their family doesn’t have to go through this horrendous ordeal.

Anything that you can give will help so much, but even sharing our campaign will help us in our goal of raising awareness of this kind of crime. We really appreciate it.

If we happen to receive more than the necessary funds to cover the veterinary bills, we will donate the remainder to a charity helping against cruelty to animals.
