Help My Family Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa
My name is Morren Wallace, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but hopeful spirit. My family, who lives in Longhill, Westmoreland, Jamaica, lost almost everything when Hurricane Melissa tore through our community.
While we’re deeply grateful that everyone’s lives were spared, the storm left behind unimaginable destruction. In just a few hours, our home, the place that held years of love, laughter and hard work was reduced to rubble. Furniture, clothing, and treasured personal items were all swept away or destroyed. The things we worked tirelessly for are now gone, and my family is left trying to rebuild from nothing.
This home meant so much more than just walls and a roof. Built with concrete, board, and zinc, it stood as a symbol of my parents’ love and resilience. My Mom and Dad have been together for 40 years and raised 3 biological children in that home for almost 30 years. Over time, they opened their doors and hearts to others, extending help to family, friends, and 9 additional children who found love and safety within those walls. It was a place built not only with materials, but with compassion, faith, and community.
Now, that foundation of love has been shaken but not broken. We are trying to raise US $50,000 to help rebuild our home and cover essential needs like food, clothing, and temporary shelter. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in helping us rebuild what was lost and restore stability for my parents and our family.
I, Morren Wallace, will personally ensure that every donation goes directly toward these needs and rebuilding efforts.
Even in the face of loss, we remain thankful for life, for the kindness of others, and for the chance to start again. Your compassion and generosity mean more than words can express.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for supporting us as we begin to rebuild after this devastating storm.
