Background
When I was 11 or 12 years old, I experienced a severe complication from SCFE (slipped capital femoral epiphysis), a childhood hip disorder that resulted in an acute fracture and emergency surgery after blood supply to the bone was compromised.
With two new screws in my hip, I spent that summer bedridden and much of sixth grade using a wheelchair during recovery. Although the initial surgery stabilized the injury, the effects never fully left my life.
Over the years, I developed chronic hip pain along with multiple related complications including bursitis, IT band syndrome, a labral tear, and progressive degeneration in my right hip; to name just a few. Despite years of physical therapy and conservative treatment, I have continued to live with daily pain and mobility limitations.
Recent imaging continues to show structural damage and arthritic changes in the joint, and I am now preparing for a major surgery that I have needed for a long time.
Surgery & Recovery
I will be undergoing a right hip replacement. This surgery is an important step toward improving my mobility and quality of life, but the recovery process will be extensive. During rehabilitation, I will have limited mobility and a significantly reduced ability to work. Recovery will involve post-operative care, physical therapy, transportation to appointments, and time away from work while my body heals. As someone working independently across art, writing, and creative labor, I do not have the kind of financial safety net that easily absorbs a major medical recovery period. Recovery is expected to involve approximately two weeks of acute post-surgical recovery followed by several additional weeks of physical therapy and rehabilitation, with an estimated six-week recovery timeline before returning to more normal levels of mobility and work capacity. During this period, my mobility and ability to work will be significantly limited while I heal.
The Ask
I am raising $7,777 to help cover living and recovery expenses during this transition, including:
- Medical Expenses not covered by insurance
- Rent and basic living expenses during rehabilitation
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Recovery and mobility support needs
- Lost income during surgical recovery
Any support, whether through donations or sharing this fundraiser, would make a meaningful difference and help relieve some of the financial pressure surrounding this process so I can focus on healing.
About Me
My name is Morgan, nickname Momo. My performer alias is slimebubble. I am a Brooklyn-based artist, writer, and vj/dj whose work explores ritual, technology, memory, and symbolic systems through writing, video, performance, and research-based practice.
For many years, I have continued creating and working while navigating chronic pain and mobility limitations. This surgery represents not only a medical necessity but also the possibility of moving through the world with greater stability, mobility, and less pain after years of endurance.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and helping me move into this next chapter of recovery.
