Very, very early on the morning of the 21st of December, my niece, Morgan Beck, had to have emergency eye surgery. A glass bottle fell from the fridge and shattered. Somehow, a piece of that glass got into her eye. Once realizing, my brother and sister-in-law took her to the local Urgent Care/Emergency Room. Not equipped to handle the situation, they were transferred to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, which unfortunately is a 4-hour drive both ways from where they live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

We found out that the piece of glass cut a jagged Y-shaped cut right above her iris. Both her pupil and iris were protruding out of the gash. They had to make the incision bigger to be able to put everything back where it belongs.

They have to stay in the area for several post-op check-ups. Then they will have to go back in 6-8 weeks for stitches to be removed from her eye.

The cut was very deep and unfortunately might have damaged the lens in her eye. If that's the case, then there is a chance that she will develop a cataract, which they hopefully will be able to remove with another surgery.

Morgan, who will be two in April, has been a trooper! She likes being a pirate and all the fun stuff that she got at the hospital for being such a good girl.

Kenneth and Katherine want to say a huge thank you to all those that have prayed for the family and sent messages of concern. Please continue to pray for Morgan and the family as she heals and they travel back and forth for check-ups.

Now, with all of this being said, it isn't cheap to have emergencies, let alone emergencies and have to drive, stay overnight, etc.
